first
release of our GooglePlex game |
|
09/19/99, 17:47
EST, Anselm Hook - anselm@openmediagroup.com
I'm pleased
to announce that the source code for our game GooglePlex is now
available from our downloads
page. This is a good example product using Java3D and MathEngine.
Some of you may have seen this at various trade-shows such as Siggraph
or the Tokyo
Game Developers Conference where we've been showing it for
MathEngine.
We are exploring
what it means to take dynamics for granted in a game by doing a
number of lightweight simulations and games built on top of the
MathEngine SDK. We're using the standard MathEngine library but
also have a pre-release of a Collision Library as part of our distribution.
Our next project
is to build a lightweight dynamics authoring tool on top of the
current code base. We intend to port the entire thing to the Playstation
II and we will also have Linux support within a few weeks. In addition,
we've built a more complex dynamical car with a real suspension
that we'll probably post as well. Our website will have Japanese
documentation in the near future. This is definitely a work in progress
and our goals may change so be advised.

We've
named that game |
|
07/30/99, 16:36
EST, Lorna Moroz - lorna@openmediagroup.com
It took us longer
than we wanted but we finally got there - our MediaToy Game project
finally has a name: MediaToy
GooglePlex. Thank you to Andy Krouwel of MathEngine for
the suggestion. For the non-mathematicians in the audience: the
reference is to a "googolplex" a.k.a. a very large number...
ten raised to the power of a googol to be exact. A googol is ten
raised to the hundredth power (10100).

praise or glaring problems to webmaster@openmediagroup.com.
Thanks all!

April
29, 1999 - major site overhaul planned |
|
We know, we know,
this site still leaves a lot to be desired.
We've done a
review of this initial pass at site design, and have identified
a lot of basic navigation and configuration problems we plan to
change. We're looking forward to having a Graphic Designer on board
as well, we're sure once that person is here they'll want to redesign
this place in their own image. <g> In the mean time, we are
getting to the ergonomic situation with this site as soon as competing
issues allow us. If you have any personal problems or nitpicks on
the subject you'd like to bring to our attention, write webmaster@openmediagroup.com.
Your input is appreciated, even at this early stage of things.

March
22, 1999 - the GDC experience |
|
We were very
excited to see how aggressively industry luminaries are now addressing
the issue of incorporating dynamic physics into 3D environments.
Chris Hecker, David Wu (Pseudo
Interactive), and other leading self-starters on
the problem are now being joined by the developer community at large
in recognizing the critical role realistic, dynamic physics play
in creating successful gaming products.
The GDC was
an amazing time all over for MathEngine, the booth was extremely
busy and the SDK1 has been very well received. For more news and
information on the show, MathEngine's new partnerships with Sony
(as Middleware providers supporting the next generation PlayStation),
Intel,
Staccato
Systems and more, jump to the MathEngine
press releases.
Expect new materials
and notes to appear on our design
pages next month!

3, 1999 - the GDC |
|
Meet us at the GDC
(Game Developers Conference)
in San Jose, California from March 15th through to 19th.
We'll be with
MathEngine at booth #1238 as we kickstart this new endeavour, and
we'd love to talk with you about what we're doing and how you might
get involved.
